Throughout the Great Depression, the unemployed in the United States Essay

Throughout the Great Depression, the unemployed in the United States remained a dispirited and disorganised mass that made li - Essay Example The U.S is one of the nations that believe on job creation as one of the most effective way of boosting the national economy. Its politicians from several parties have included the issue of job creation in their agendas to win more votes but forget it the moment they ascend to power2. It would be unfair to place the entire blame on the politicians alone since the issue of unemployment in the country is every one’s responsibilities. For instance, it is more than evident that the U.S citizens opt for less demanding courses like social and art based courses whose fields are already crowded. They leave the foreigners to major in technological, medical and natural science courses which are still marketable in the job markets. After the graduations, the U.S would always absorb the foreigners who majored in complex courses and provide attractive salary packages while the U.S citizens who majored in less demanding courses remain jobless3. Politicians in the country do not deserve any blame in this scenario. Every student is always presented with equal opportunities to pursue any course depending on the students’ abilities. However, some blame would be directed to the politicians. For instance, the 2007 global financial crisis that saw more than 500,000 U.S citizens from both private and governmental sectors lose their jobs. The legislators ordered various financial institutions to offer some unsecured loans to the real estate department only for the loans to remain unpaid due to some sort of reasons4. The government had to withdraw some amounts from the national treasury to settle such loans. In the event, the national and global economy was compromised and this saw several people lose their jobs among other effects. The human rights activists have been advocating for the increase in employment rates. There have been several instances when the human rights mobilize the unemployed U.S citizens to demonstrate in major streets with posters portraying the nee d for rise in employment rates. Such claims have also been portrayed in different platforms like websites, internet pages, national broadcasting channels, and national newspapers and through road campaigns among others. However, the government through the national and homeland security is always keen whenever more than 10 U.S citizens gather to raise their claims with regards to increased unemployment rates5. This is because whatever starts like a simple and peaceful demonstration usually turn up to be violent and some sort of chances to loot from major stores in the country. It is believed that this is one of the government strategies to keep the nation silence despite the increased rates of unemployment. Top U.S politicians have also ordered fro the arrest or even assassination of top human rights activists advocating for increased employment rates. Political analyst lament that such claims can make the citizens lose trust in a certain government and call for revolutions, just as it happened in Egypt and Libya among other nations. Several business reports indicate that illegal U.S immigrants form the greatest percentage in the national job market. This is because they are provided with more reduced salary packages among other benefits. The illegal immigrants are always desperate for employment opportunities for sustenance. Furthermore, their employers are always relieved of some labor regulations like insurance among others. It is

Second was www. ghirardelli. com which is also a worthy competitor. The third was www. cadbur. co. uk but they would not be considered a competitor since their company was based in the UK and had products that were not directed towards the same consumer. This was followed by www. hersheys. com another major supplier in the industry. Another very relevant competitor was www. sees. com carrying much of the same product was ranked #7 in the searched google keyword. AeroFlot Flight 8641 Crash Analysis

AeroFlot Flight 8641 Crash Analysis Most people think of planes as a fast and efficient way to get to a place farther away than what a car can take them. But, what most people dont know is that there are engineering design problems. One of which happened to Aeroflot Flight 8641. In June 28, 1981, AeroFlot Flight 8641 encountered an engineering design problem. Unfortunately, it ended horribly and the crash killed everyone on board which was a total of 132 people. The plane crashed near Mozyr, Belarus. This opened the peoples eyes about the Yak-42s. All Yak-42s were suspended from service until the design defect was solved and tested. Yakovlev is a plane company out of Russia. In 1965, Yakovlev built the Yak-40. Then in the early 1970s the Yak-42 was designed and built. The designers are working on a new plane design called the Yak-44. The Yak-42 is a medium size jet airliner. AeroFlot Flight 8641 was the first crash with this plane because of the design failure. This crash was the first and deadliest crash including the Yak-42. No one knew about the design defect until the investigation on why the plane lost control and crashed.[1] During the investigation, it was found that the whole tail of the plane detached due to metal fatigue on the jackscrew. [3]The metal on the jackscrew was melted, which made it deform and cause a weak spot in the tail. The pressure of the air and speed of the plane started cracking and breaking the tail off, which cause the plane to dive down to the ground and crashed killing everyone on board. The designers were a group from the company, Yakovlev. They were blamed for the crash because they didnt take precautions on metal fatigue issue in the prototypes[4]. After the crash, the designers had to fix the problem before sending any more planes up into the air. So, the designers had to find a way to stop metal fatigue. New precautions were put into place on how to keep the jack screw from melting.[6] The designers needed to know parts of structural engineering, mechanical engineering, and material science.[7] They needed to know how to keep the stress below the fatigue level and also, needed to know how to make the plane efficient when one part fails the whole plan does not fail.[8] They also had a part life[9]. This is when a part got used to a certain amount of time it got replaced with a new one. And lastly, the plane was checked for cracks and when a crack gets to a certain length the part is replaced. The jackscrew is made out of cast iron. This cast irons melting point is 2060-2200 degrees fahrenheit or 1127-1204 degrees celsius. The solution of the new design is how to divert the heat from the jackscrew or change the material of the jackscrew or the materials around it to keep the jackscrew cooled of[10]f. The design of the Yakovlev Yak-42 was the cause of the crash. The designers had to make a new design to solve the problem that happened to AeroFlot Flight 8641. There were also new precautions put into place to prevent crashes or issues with the plane. New part lifes were also introduced to keep the planes running for longer and to keep old parts off the plane to cut off the chance of it failing and causing a crash. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackscrew https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatigue_(material) https://www.revolvy.com/main/index.php?s=Aeroflot%20Flight%208641 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeroflot_Flight_8641 http://www.theinfolist.com/php/SummaryGet.php?FindGo=Yakovlev%20Yak-42 http://www.airvectors.net/avyak40.html Aeroflot flight 8641 Jackscrew https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackscrew Metal fatigue https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatigue_(material) https://www.revolvy.com/main/index.php?s=Aeroflot%20Flight%208641 Jackscrew mechanism in the aircrafts tail The aircraft lost control and dove into the ground https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeroflot_Flight_8641 Killed all 132 people on board When June 28, 1982 Where Near Mozyr, Belarus How Jackscrew mechanism in the aircrafts tail What happened after All yak-42s were shut down until the problem as fixed Yakovlev Yak-42 The tailplane detached from the plane http://www.theinfolist.com/php/SummaryGet.php?FindGo=Yakovlev%20Yak-42 Rubric rating submitted on: 12/21/2016, 11:56:36 AM by [emailprotected] 10 5 0 Title Page    Your score: 5 x Present not done Table of Contents    Your score: 5 x Present not done Abstract    Your score: 5 Present not done Introduction    Your score: 5 x Background    Your score: 5 Present not done Investigation    Your score: 6 Present not done Findings    Your score: 7 Present not done Impact    Your score: 0 Present not done Conclusion    Your score: 5 x not done References    Your score: 10 References included no references Notes    Your score: 10 Notes recorded no notes 6 Content Pages    Your score: 3 filled 6 pages 3 content pages no contents pages Comments: Rubric rating submitted on: 12/21/2016, 12:14:40 PM by [emailprotected] 10 5 0 Title Page    Your score: 5 x Present not done Table of Contents    Your score: 5 x Present not done Abstract    Your score: 5 Present not done Introduction    Your score: 5 x Background    Your score: 5 Present not done Investigation    Your score: 7 Present not done Findings    Your score: 8 Present not done Impact    Your score: 5 Present not done Conclusion    Your score: 5 x not done References    Your score: 10 References included no references Notes    Your score: 10 Notes recorded no notes 6 Content Pages    Your score: 3 filled 6 pages 3 content pages no contents pages Comments: [1]how long did they make these planes? were there any other problems before this incident? where were they made? Sir Gawain and the Green Knight :: English Literature Essays

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, a fourteenth-century tale written by an anonymous poet, chronicles how Sir Gawain of King Arthur’s Round Table finds his virtue compromised. A noble and truthful knight, Gawain accepts the Green Knight’s challenge at Arthur’s New Years feast. On his way to the Green Chapel, Gawain takes shelter from the cold winter at Lord Bercilak’s castle. The lord makes an agreement with Gawain to exchange what they have one at the end of the day. During the three days that the lord is out hunting, his wife attempts to seduce Gawain. At the end of the story, it is revealed that Morgan le Faye has orchestrated the entire situation to disgrace the Knights of the Round Table by revealing that one of their best, Sir Gawain, is not perfect. The passage begins with Lord Bercilak returning from his first hunting trip. As has been agreed, he hands over the wild boar he has killed to Gawain. In turn, Gawain gives the lord a kiss. The lord gives Gawain a chance to admit that he has been intimate with Lady Bercilak when he says, â€Å"it might be [the kiss] all the better, would you but say where you won this same award† (Norton 187. Gawain is a gentleman, who would never kiss and tell, so the two reaffirm their pact for the next day. The lord’s determination in â€Å"pursuing the wild swine till the sunlight slanted† is paralleled by his wife’s determination in seducing Gawain as â€Å"she was at him with all her art to turn his mind her way† (188). Lady Bercilak attempts to exploit Gawain’s reputation as she tries to seduce him. She greets him in the bedroom and coyly asks how â€Å"a man so well-meaning, and mannerly disposed†¦cannot act in company as courtesy bids† (189). Lady Bercilak is not subtle (she points out that the door is locked and the two are alone in the castle) as she offers herself to Gawain, saying, â€Å"I am yours to command, to kiss when you please† (189). She tries to make Gawain feel guilty by implying that he is insulting her by not succumbing to her seductions and proclaiming his love to her.

Language and memory Essay

Limitations with the study included the sample range being too small. This means that it is difficult to make generalisations because 20 undergraduate students cannot possibly be representative of the sample population. In order to improve the experiment, a wider sample range could be used, including people from different age groups and ethnic backgrounds. Another limitation was gender bias. The driver in the vignette was male which could have meant that male participants may have been more sympathetic to him when giving an estimation. If a female character had been used, the results may have been different. This could be improved by using two sample groups, both with female characters, but again with either the ‘smashed into’ condition or ‘bumped into’ condition. The results of this and previous studies have a number of implications in today’s society. Loftus and Palmer’s work (1974), showed how changing a verb in a sentence, can alter eyewitness recall of a car accident. These findings have major implications for the Legal Justice Systems. In a study by Rattner (1988), a review of 205 cases of wrongful arrest showed that 52% of the cases were associated with mistaken eyewitness testimonies. These results highlighted the unreliability of eyewitness testimony. Other studies have demonstrated that witnesses sometimes cannot attribute memory to its appropriate sources, or that they make source attribution errors. When witnesses get information from other witnesses and from the police, then their own recollection is likely to be contaminated (Fisher, 1995). This is yet further evidence suggesting that there should be less dependence on eyewitness testimony, and with the arrival of advanced gene technology, it is now possible to use alternative sources of evidence. Walking With Two Feet Professor Ramos Blog

Walking With Two Feet It was six years ago today that my life had changed. It seems like such a long time, yet that pain and feeling never goes away. It was just a normal day, so I thought. My brother Steve and I decided before I went back to New Mexico we would go out one more time. Little did I know California would be my home for one more year. It takes one mistake for your whole life to change a normal day to the worst day. It takes one person to have faith in you and hold your hand through it all. It was late at night that we decided we were going to hit the Swap-Meet in Corona. Little kids running around, jumping in the party jumpers, buying candy and clothes from the little markets. It was eight-thirty at night that It was time to head back to my brothers place and pack to go back home in the morning. We gathered the things that we bought and headed back to the car; putting everything we bought in the back of the trunk   after opening the doors, sitting in our seats, and buckling our seat belts. I remember thanking my brother telling him that I was going to miss him as soon as I left. Fifteen minutes Fifteen minutes was all it took to change the rest of my life. The glare from the red light shining off my glasses, waiting as I watched the light turns green. Slowly putting his foot on the gas I turned to my brother to see at a glance headlights heading straight towards us. Flashing lights, the sound of the sirens coming from a distance, broken glass on the floor, and a car flipped.  As the random man put his hand over my head and repeated God bless this child, she is to young, and hasnt seen the rest of her life yet. Lord dont take her. (beat, beat, beat) the sound of my heart as I can feel it slowing down. As the tears dropped down my face, and my brother started to blur. There I go. â€Å"CLEAR!!! CLEAR!!! I’ve got a pulse.† â€Å"Do you know where you are at? Can you tell me your name ? Everything will be okay.† Something didn’t seem right, something was wrong and I couldn’t figure out what it was. Four doctors and three nurses entered the room, yet all I could think of was were my brother was and if he was okay. As I saw him standing by the edge of my door with a broken arm and tears on his face not saying a word, leaving the room, and never looking back. Three months laying in a bed paralyzed made me so angry I pushed everything and everyone away. Nothing mattered anymore, I didn’t matter anymore, I didn’t know why this happened to me or why I was hurt so bad. Maria Rodriguez, the woman who changed my life. I remember calling her into my room telling her I was ready to shower she looked at me and said â€Å" Then go take one† I thought to myself, â€Å"What the hell did she just say† She walked out the room came back in and sat down. We stared at each other for a while I repeated myself over and over â€Å" If I could get my ass out this bed I wo uldn’t even ask you or be here†. No matter what I could tell her she didn’t give in. She finally got up from the chair, came towards my bed and said â€Å" I will help you, Im not saying I will help you shower, but I will help you get there you just have to try.† I sat myself up on the bed using both my arms with very little strength I had looked at her and said â€Å"Forget it I will ask someone else† she laughed at me because she already told everyone else to leave my room alone. I didn’t know why this crazy ass lady just wouldn’t help me, but it was me that didn’t want to help myself. I’d given up. I called her back into the room and asked her â€Å" Can you please help me walk to the bathroom so I can shower†? She smiled and responded â€Å"Yes, you see mija I can’t make you walk, but what I can do is be patient and wait for you to understand you’re not alone anymore as long as you allow me to help you I won’t give up on you†. Seven months in the hospital, Doctor Rodriguez would stay with me even on her days off. The chances of me ever walking again was a fifteen percent chance, however this crazy ass lady didn’t see it that way. She held my hand and pushed me one day at a time, and by the eighth month I was already able to take a few steps. The pain of dropping to the floor was exhausting even though I kept telling myself to give up, she picked me up wiped my tears and said â€Å"Again†. Frustrated, angry, pain, and hurt: none of these words could describe how I felt all I knew was the longer I kept telling myself I couldnâ₠¬â„¢t do it I was going to be there forever. I was done! Done complaining! Done giving up! Done feeling useless! I knew all I could do was push harder it was nobody’s choice but my own, and if I wanted to get out of this I had to want it for myself. Everyday I was pushed harder, that meant more steps, more falling, more tears, and more pain. Eleven months moving more than I had ever, two weeks after I was close to being home Dr. Rodriguez had to leave on a family emergency I was terrified, but I knew that if she found out that I had given up she would definitely be upset. Don’t worry I didn’t, I pushed even harder, because I wanted to make her proud she was the reason for getting me as far as I did. By the time Dr. Rodriguez had come back to the hospital she came in looking for me, not knowing that I had my rooms switched. I watched her from a distance as she argued to see where I went, another nurse pushed me in a wheel-chair she had tears rushing down her face and thought something happened. I kept myself at a distance told her to stay where she was got up from the chair by myself and walked slowly towards her. She continued to cry as I walked to give her the biggest hug and thanked her. We walked to my room told me â€Å"Mija can I tell you something†? I responded to her telling her â€Å" Of course† she held my hands sat there and began to tell me a story of her daughter passing away because she had given up. She didn’t have the strength to keep going that was why she didn’t want me to give up. She thanked me giving me the biggest hug, telling me, â€Å" No matter where you are and no matter what happens, dont give up remember I am always with you†. We’re not supposed to know all the answers why these things happen to us. We’re not supposed to know why people come into our lives and change where we go from there. I was paralyzed on both legs, with a fifteen percent chance of ever walking again, lost all faith in myself, and I had no strength to push forward. But it takes one person to change your life, to believe in you and hold your hand even when you feel like there is nothing left in you. It takes one drunk driver to damage or hurt a person, but it takes two steps to move forward.
